AMSTeen Workshop

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday November 4

10:00 AM  –  3:00 PM

Alé Cota, AMSTeens Coordinator and Workshop Facilitator will hand out three different contemporary short poems to serve as prompts. After reviewing the prompts with the teens, Alé will ask students to write a brief reflection on the poems, emotions, ideas, or questions the piece evoked for them. After the reflection, Alé will ask the students to take out their phones or digital cameras, and everyone will go on a short walk around the inside and outside of the museum. During the walk, Alé will ask the students to capture shots of each other, nature, or objects they feel connected to the poem-prompt reflection they wrote. Everyone will then return to the studio. Alé will strip the color of the image in the digital lab while everyone is on break for lunch, and print silhouettes of the image that shows only the linework of the photo(s).

Students will have the ability to then either color pencil, oil pastel, paint, or even cut up and collage the images onto a canvas.

Goals:

  1.  Students will gain a connection between literature and visual art.
  2.  Students will learn introductory photography skills.
  3.  Students will practice playing with composition.
  4.  Students will receive encouragement to think interdisciplinarily.
